She said she was fine to run to Walmart with you. Twenty minutes, in and out. Now it is 7pm, she is lying on the bed with the lights off, and she does not want to talk about dinner or anything else. You think it was just groceries. For her nervous system, it was a flood. Big box stores are close to the worst environment there is for a lot of neurodivergent women. Fluorescent lights overhead. Registers beeping and announcements cutting in over the music. Hundreds of near-identical choices in every aisle. Most brains turn the volume down on all of that automatically. Hers takes it in at full strength and has to process every piece. She will hold it together inside the store. She has done that her whole life. The bill comes due in the car and keeps coming for the rest of the night. Going early, when the aisles are empty, cuts the load, and pushing the cart takes the decisions off her. A silent drive home gives her nervous system its first quiet minutes since she walked through those doors. She has been called lazy for needing to lie down after errands her whole life. Nobody ever counted what those errands cost her. The Dynamic Mastery is in my bio. @officialkanecross #neurodivergent #sensoryoverload #adhdwomen #autism #domsub
