Her day off. She had a list: laundry, the closet, that email, a walk, maybe the store. At 9pm you find her in tears on the couch, where she has been since breakfast. She did not do one thing on the list, and she did not rest either. She scrolled and hated herself for scrolling. There is a name for this. ADHD paralysis is what many people with ADHD call the freeze that happens when there are too many things to start and no clear first one. Her brain cannot rank them, so it stalls on all of them. Every hour that passes makes starting feel more impossible and the guilt louder. "What do you want to get done today?" asks her to rank the list, which is the exact thing her brain is stuck on. Holding out her shoes and naming one small, easy thing gives her a first step she did not have to choose. Once her body is moving, the next step usually comes on its own. She has called herself lazy after a lot of wasted days off. All she ever needed was someone to take the first step with her.
