Four men appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, facing serious charges linked to the violent attack on 50-year-old North West cattle farmer Donovan Marx. The accused, Phindile Alex Nomngcayi (30), Thomas Thabo Motlhangtlhong (27), Mothoka Godfrey Mathipa (56) and Mokhema Jan Maishoane (53), face charges of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault, and possession of firearms and ammunition. The State has described the alleged offence as planned and premeditated. A fifth person was previously arrested, but that case was not enrolled at this appearance. According to police reports, the attack took place on the morning of 28 October 2026 at Marx’s Syferfontein farm near Ventersdorp. Attackers allegedly tied up a farmworker with cable ties, then ambushed Marx when he arrived. He was shot, stabbed, assaulted and had both ears cut off. Firearms were taken from a safe and the group fled in his vehicle. Marx was hospitalised in a serious condition and has been recovering; his family has publicly welcomed the arrests and stated that the legal process must now take its course. All four accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No finding of guilt has been made. The court process is at an early stage, and the full circumstances will be tested through evidence presented by the State and the defence. This case has drawn widespread attention because of the severity of the injuries reported and the broader reality of violent farm attacks in South Africa. Rural communities continue to face high levels of violent crime, and families of victims repeatedly call for thorough investigations, strong prosecutions and consistent application of the law. Swift arrests in this matter have been noted by police and parliamentary representatives as a positive step; the next critical phase is a properly prepared case that can withstand scrutiny in court. JustAdvocacy stands with victims and their families who seek justice through lawful processes. We will continue to follow the proceedings, report factually, and highlight the need for rural safety, accountability, and support for those affected by violent crime. The path forward lies in the courts, not in speculation. Every accused person is entitled to a fair trial, and every victim is entitled to a justice system that takes their suffering seriously. We urge the public to allow the legal process to unfold without interference and to support efforts that strengthen investigations and prosecutions in farm attack and other serious violent crime cases. Donovan Marx and his family deserve clear answers and a process that delivers justice. #Jus#JustAdvocacyn#DonovanMarxr#FarmAttacku#SouthAfricas#Justice
