Today, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula became visibly emotional and then collapsed while addressing the media outside the Constitutional Court at Constitution Hill. This followed the court’s ruling that reinstated 181 ANC councillor candidates who had been excluded from the ballot for the 4 November local government elections. Mbalula spoke about the sleepless nights and personal strain the legal battle had placed on him before saying he was not feeling well and needing assistance. ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu stepped in to continue the briefing and confirmed that he was receiving medical attention. The incident was not related to questions about asylum seekers, as some reports circulating online have claimed. It was a moment of overwhelming emotion after a significant court outcome for his party’s candidates. At JustAdvocacy, we focus on facts and on treating people with dignity, regardless of political affiliation. Collapse or illness in public is never something to mock or politicise. We wish Fikile Mbalula a full and speedy recovery and hope he receives the care he needs. Health comes first. May he recover well. #JustAdvocacy #FikileMbalula #GetWellSoon #ConstitutionalCourt
