sorry, I'm not changing my name

Hi, my name is Mary. I'm a teacher. And I'm gonna tell you guys something that's really been bothering me. And I'm just gonna vent about it. So my last name is Tong and it's spelled T H O N G. Obviously like Tong. And yeah, haha, laugh it up if you think it's funny because I just got a comment that said, LOL, not the last name on one of my posts. That comment didn't really bother me as much as one that I had like a month ago where you could see my last name and someone suggested that I should change my last name because I'm Cambodian American. That is the name that my dad had. The name my dad has. The name I represent and I've always been proud of it. But when I see ignorant comments like that, it really just ticks me off. I luckily grew up in Southern California and one of the most diversity in the world. And people weren't constantly like, saying things to me. So it wasn't like, no bullying or anything like that. But it's just crazy that obviously here on the internet where people are seeing it, they have these ignorant comments. And it's crazy because, like, a teacher with the last name Smith is not gonna be told that she should probably change her last name. And what's even crazier to me is that I've been teaching for five years now. This is my fifth year. I have never been told by anyone in administration, not even like parents, have said anything to me about my last name before. The most common question I get is just how do I pronounce my last name? And that's it. I even taught middle school, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I was told to be inappropriate things, but it had nothing to do with my last name. And it really goes to show that, like, this is a common thing where we don't make fun of someone's name. We don't judge someone for their name. And honestly, it's just something that I wish the internet could learn to do.
