Let me tell you guys how bad the budget is in education right now. Every year since I started teaching, and this is my sixth year, I have taught summer school. Last year, there was no summer school because of budgeting, and they cut it for at least for elementary schools, which is what I teach. I didn't teach summer school last year. They said they're bringing it back this year, so I applied to teach. And usually it's just a form saying, yes, I wanna teach. And again, in the past, I've had no problem getting it. Even some years, principal will message us and say like, hey, this grade is still open. If somebody wants to teach summer school, tell me why. This year we are treating summer school as if it's like seniors waiting for their college acceptance letters. Obviously, with this economy, I can use the extra cash. I've also just had a lot of crazy financial stuff happen to me. Like, I just paid $3,000 to get my car fixed. I'm waiting to hear back where my placement is going to be and all that stuff. There's already a lot of speculation about, like, it might be difficult to get a summer school position this year. But because that wasn't usually the case in the past, I thought that I was probably gonna be okay. Coworker comes up to me yesterday and she's like, did you get in? Did you get in? And I'm like, oh my god, they sent out the summer school stuff. And she was like, yeah, I got an email and then I'm checking my email, didn't get anything. She's like, check your junk mail. Didn't get anything. There's a lot of rumours about, like, how people got accepted in summer school. I applied pretty quickly, I thought, but some people are like, yeah, I think it was first come, first serve. If there are some theories, that's veteran teachers who got it first, or some people who never really teach summer school. They might have wanted to give them a chance instead of people like me who have taught summer school in the past. I don't know. But yeah, I didn't get it and I'm very disappointed. But, yeah, it's just crazy to never have been in this situation where I haven't been accepted to teach summer school before. So, yeah, very crazy what's going on in education right now. I mean, if you don't know, there's literally cuts everywhere. So many people are losing their positions, like librarians especially. They are closing down classrooms. They are closing down literal schools in my district because of low enrollment and, of course, budgeting. So yeah, the education world is very crazy right now.
