Laid off without warning? Here's what to do immediately... A friend of mine got laid off out of nowhere, no warnings, no red flags and right after a glowing performance review, then boom. Thank you and goodbye. If your company ever pulls this kind of move on you here's what to do right away. Number one, close things professionally. Send your boss a summary of everything that is in progress. Don't leave people in the dark. This helps you leave on a strong and respectful note. Number two, say thank you. Send a message to your team, tell them how much you appreciate working with them. People remember kindness and leadership in moments like this. Number three, activate your network. Reach out to everyone, former colleagues, industry friends and recruiters, what not. Tell everyone that you are looking again. Number four, take care of yourself. I told her to go out for a nice dinner that night, join a gym, sleep in, take a break or work on things you have always put off. Number five, keep moving. Finding the next job takes a lot of time in this tight market. Accept ups and downs. If downs hit you very hard, reach out to someone you can trust and talk it through, you can talk to me as well. Keep at it. A door, maybe a window will open. Remember to always take care of yourself. If you are still employed, even if the job is frustrating, which I get or far from perfect, remember take care of yourself. Always take care of yourself.
