Hi, I'm Georgia. I'm the founder of a PR and personal branding agency. Let's get into it. Firstly, I would do an audit of every public facing part of my brand. Does my website look professional? Do I have great brand imagery? Is my social media aligned with my brand mission? Is my messaging clear? Everything needs to be 10 out of 10 before you start pitching to the press. Then I would be diving into competitive research. If I was trying to get press for my personal brand story as a product based business founder, I'd be looking up founders who have loads of great press coverage. So for example, Pia Mance. She's the founder of Heaven Mayhem, a vintage jewellery brand, and she's been featured in so many publications from Forbes to Who What Wear. I'd be making a note of every single publication and journalist that's written about her. And you can niche down in your research too. So if you're starting an activewear brand, you could be researching people like Grace Beverley who founded TALA. If you're more focused on pitching products to the press, I'd be researching key hit products in your niche. So for example, activewear fashion, I'd be researching what journalists have featured that famous Adanola hoodie. Another example, if you're in the beauty industry, I'd be looking at Rhode's most recently released products and seeing what journalists have written about them. And just apply this to any industry. So if you're in interiors, you could look up IKEA products. If you're trying to get press for a podcast, look up other podcasts. It's as simple as that. And next, I'm perfecting my pitch. So I'm going to be writing a clear pitch email to those specific journalists that's going to be hyper relevant to the topics they write about. So if they're doing product roundups, I'm sending them product details. If they write up founder stories, I'm sending them my founder story, making it as tailored to them as possible. And if you are looking for pitch templates, I do have a personal brand growth guide in my bio which has this exact template and a PR toolkit for you product based brands. And lastly, once I've pitched, I'm waiting five working days and then I'm following up on that pitch. Journalists receive hundreds of emails a day, so a polite follow up just to make sure that they haven't missed your original email goes a long way. That's everything I would do, but if you want more detail, I have resources in my bio and you can follow along here for loads more free tips.
