This is the exact resume template I used to get a job at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and into a top MBA program, and how I would set up yours. So on episode one of my series I'm calling 20 Lessons in my 20s, Mastering the Art of Resumes. So the first section is the header section. It should be all centered, starting with your name, followed by your location, and then your contact information, including your LinkedIn. I like to bold my name, but that's just preference. Next, we jump into part one of the body. This section should be your education and include the name of the school, the location, and the degree you're pursuing or received. I like to include my graduation year, but if you think it will work against you, you can actually leave that out. Then, include at least two bullet points about your education. If you have a decent GPA, I would start with that, then list any programs, honors, or relevant coursework that you've taken. Now it's on to the most important part of your resume. This is your work experience. The format should be identical to your education and include the name of the company, your job title below that, then on the right side, the location, and the years you worked there underneath. Then, include at least three bullet points about each experience. The key here is to explain how you had an impact at the company, not just what you did. For example, if the role is looking for sales skills and you were a bartender, don't just say, I made drinks for college kids. Say, I analyzed customer drink preferences to upsell similar tasting premium liquors, leading to an increase in sales. And try to include as much quantitative information as possible. For example, a retail manager might say, I independently managed a team of seven sales associates to consistently hit revenue targets of $10,000 in sales per day. The last section is the footer of your resume and should include any hard skills, soft skills, licenses, and interests that you have. Applying to jobs is a full-time job, and the job market is in shambles, so making tweaks to your bullet points to match the role description can actually go a long way.
