The biggest problem with Apple's laptop lineup is the fact that they've made them a bit too good. After using the latest M5 MacBook Pro for the past month or so, I really have nothing bad to say about it. The nano-texture display is gorgeous, it's a beast of a machine, and it's been able to handle pretty much everything I've thrown at it. But the same could be said for the M4, the M3, the M2 version, you probably get it. The majority of Mac users who already own an M-series chip are probably not thinking about upgrading again anytime soon. My main device for the past two years has been the M3 Max MacBook Pro, and even this base model M5 version does a pretty good job matching it in my everyday use. I'm willing to say that these base model chips are borderline overkill for most people. But if I had to nitpick, my ultimate wish list for the future of the MacBook Pro lineup would probably be a touchscreen, tandem OLED display, maybe some 5G and FaceID, but we're probably a ways off for at least some of that stuff. At this point, we'll just have to wait and see what they do with the M5 Pro and M5 Max models later on, but for now, this base model M5 MacBook Pro is an amazing computer for most workflows, just like the last three or four models have been.
