I built my own creative studio almost two years ago and it's been one of the biggest learning experiences that I've had as an agency owner. Now that we're almost two years in, here are a few things that I would do differently if I were building it again. 1. Don't rush the design or building process. Research your contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Get multiple quotes, ask for references, and design for the long term, not what's trending right now. The wrong contractor or design choice doesn't just cost you money, it costs you time, energy, and peace of mind. Build it once, build it right. 2. Design it for content, not just for work. Most offices are built just for productivity, but for a creator or agency, every corner is a backdrop. Every detail that you invest in, props, lighting, textures, pays itself into content. 3. Think beyond the lease. Repairs, aircon, repainting, replacing equipment, it adds up so fast. Budget for it from day one so you're not caught off guard. 4. Set your house rules early. Who can use the space, when, and what's allowed, whether it's your team, clients, or talent on shoot. Clear rules from the start so you have good habits later. Our studio has been my biggest founder classroom. Like every mistake taught us something, we now do more with intention. So if you're about to build your own, take your time. Build the studio that you build today becomes the foundation of everything that you will create inside it.
