I think some people are confused by this. 10 years of QQQM and VOO. QQQM has outperformed VOO over the last 10 years. So why do most financial creators, like myself, still tell you to buy VOO? Let me break down both sides. VOO tracks the S&P 500. That is the 500 biggest companies in America. Tech, healthcare, banks, energy, grocery stores, all of it. Expense ratio is 0.03%. Which means for every $10,000 you have invested, you pay about $3 in fees. That is basically nothing. QQQM is the same as QQQ, but with a lower expense ratio. And it tracks the Nasdaq 100. That is 100 companies and almost all of them are tech or tech-related. Right now, about 59% of this fund is technology. The top 10 companies, Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, make up almost half of the entire fund. Expense ratio is 0.15%. So about $15 for every $10,000 you have invested. So here's the return difference. Over the past five years, QQQM has averaged about 16.8% per year. VOO averaged 13.4% per year. That gap adds up fast over time. But here's the part that matters just as much as the returns. In 2022, when the interest rates went up super fast, QQQM dropped by 32.5% in a single year. VOO dropped 18%. So if you had $10,000 of QQQM that year, you were looking at about $6,750. That is a painful number to stare at. And to get back from where you started from the 32% drop, you need a 48% gain to break even. So, QQQM is not a bad fund. It's basically a bet on tech and big growth companies that will continue to keep the economy running. Over the last decade, that bet paid off. But when tech gets hit, QQQM will get hit harder than VOO. Here's a simple way to think about it. VOO is a steady option, spread across everything. Lower fees, less wild swings. QQQM is the higher risk, higher reward option. It can grow faster, but it also can get hit harder and fall faster. If you are just starting out, VOO is an easier fund to hold without panicking. If you have been investing for a while and you know that you can sit through a rough year without selling, QQQM is worth looking at. The best fund is the one that you can hold without selling when everything goes red. Are you team VOO, team QQQ or QQQM, or do you hold both? Drop what you hold in the comments. Follow for more.
