One of the biggest mistakes I see in applications is teachers trying so hard to sound “professional” that they accidentally erase themselves from the page. Every application starts to sound the same. “I use evidence-based practice…” “I build positive relationships…” “I differentiate…” “I collaborate…” They’re all good things… but so does everyone else. What panels remember are the moments that make you human. 💚 The student who proudly read their first sentence. 💚 The child who finally trusted you enough to ask for help. 💚 The tiny breakthrough that changed your planning for the rest of the term. 💚 The funny moment that revealed something important about how that child learns. Those stories don’t make you less professional. They make your evidence believable. When you weave those authentic experiences into your application or interview, you’re no longer asking the panel to believe you build relationships, differentiate, or improve outcomes. You’re showing them. That’s the difference between sounding like a cookie-cutter application… and sounding like the teacher they’d actually like to work with. Don’t edit out your personality trying to sound like what you think the department wants. Your experience is your biggest advantage. Let the panel meet the person behind the pedagogy. 💚 That’s the application they’ll remember. #teachercareertalk #teacherjobs #teacherinterview #selectioncriteria #teachermentor
