Teachers your applications are missing one important thing ...

After reading stacks of applications and interviewing this past month, I’ve noticed the same pattern over and over again… Applications full of polished educational language, Department terminology and statements about what candidates believe. What was missing? The person behind the application. Panels aren’t looking for someone who can repeat the school’s strategic plan back to them. They’re looking for evidence that you’ve actually lived it, or that you can paint a picture telling how you see yourself using it! Instead of telling us you differentiate, show us a student whose learning changed because of your teaching. Instead of saying you value relationships, tell us about the family you partnered with or the moment trust made a difference.
