So many parents commented on my last two videos saying "my kids would NEVER do all that." And that’s really my point—it's not that your kid can't, it’s that you don’t expect it of them. You also didn’t let them try, fail & make a mess as toddlers. I get it, parenting this way takes so much time & patience in the beginning, but it will pay off in dividends when you have self-motivated and self-sufficient big kids. Think about your toddler around 1 YO to 3 YO. They want to do EVERYTHING themselves. Pour the water, put on their own shoes, wipe the table, carry the groceries. That drive for autonomy is there for a reason— it’s a survival instinct and we as parents need to honor that drive instead of conditioning our kids to suppress it It’s messy and slow, and parents are busy, so they say "let me do it," over and over. And eventually, a lot of kids stop asking. Not because they can't, but because they've learned it's not their job, or that their effort doesn't really matter. That's what learned helplessness is—and then parents are shocked when their kids can’t suddenly start doing everything for themselves when they did everything for them for YEARS. The window when kids are BEGGING to help is the easiest time to teach these functional skills. Say yes whenever you can, let them wear their shoes on the wrong feet, give them the milk box, let them spill it, then hand them the cloth to wipe it up. It'll take longer for a while, and then one day it won't and your life will actually be so much easier because you’ve taught your kids to fish instead of giving them the fish 🐠 And less time doing housework means more quality time spent TOGETHER as a family where you can focus on your children’s emotional needs. Our kids are so much more capable than we give them credit for. We just have to let them show us and hold them to the highest standards that they are capable of reaching 🤍 #momshelpingmoms #disciplined #strictparents #creatorsearchinsights #momtips How to be a strict parent How to discipline toddlers How to discipline preschoolers Logical consequence examples Examples of logical consequences Trying gentle parent How to be a good parent Montessori mom Montessori toddler
