Not me gaslighting my toddler into thinking bedtime was her idea 😂 Rule number 1 of toddler nap time is that you can NEVER tell a toddler they’ll tired, or they’ll immediately go into defense mode, “No I’m not!!” So instead, I tell my toddler that her dolls are so sleepy and need to go to bed in her room. Then I use her drive for autonomy to my advantage through our entire routine by allowing her to be as independent as possible. She picks her sleep sack, helps to put it on, turns off the light, grabs her lovey, picks a Yoto story, and climbs in bed. She thinks she's running the show and I'm just over here like yep whatever you say 🙃 Most days, she will nap for 3 hours and then sleep for 12 hours at night! And she’s been doing this since she turned 1.
