in the workplace, never accept the step up role. The promotion without any money and any guarantees. But you've got to be that extra bit loyal. You've got to do a job with extra tasks, extra expectations, come in early, stay late, go above and beyond. And you don't even get paid. But you get whipped on the back side. And the problem is, if you accept the step up role, and you want to take a back seat, because you realize that you're being used and abused, and you're giving an extra, you know, Adams Apple, because you've been given the carrot of the promotion that was coming after it. And now you want to step away because you realize that actually you're being used and abused for the next six to 12 months. Now, I can hear in the background, someone will say, "Well, I took a step up role, I took a step up role, and they were paying me an extra 25 pound an hour. And it actually led to a promotion. Okay, Bob, jobs, okay. People don't, look, listen, do not do it. Please, do not do it. It's one of the worst things that you can do. You truly will be bent over a barrel and rogered, as we say here in the UK. Have some respect. Stay grounded. If you're going to chase golden handcuffs, wait for an actual promotion, not one that I would actually personally advise that at all. I think climbing the corporate ladder is nuts. You know, hard work doesn't lead to success. Smart work on yourself does. And step up roles are anything but smart work. In fact, it's basically saying, I've got the Vaseline, come on in, Big Boy. That's the way that I look at it. I've been there, I've seen it too many times with old co-workers where they put their hand up, they went above and beyond for the company, thinking they were going to be rewarded six months later, they're still running around like a headless chicken, stressed out to the high heavens. In fact, there's a guy called Dave I used to work with, he took a step up role and he was, uh, mentally depleted. So don't do it to yourself. It's the worst thing you can ever accept. Say no to step up roles. Agree? Agree? I've said it before, the donkey doesn't own the farm, you know, hard work doesn't lead to success. Smart work on yourself does.
