I'm going home after my volunteer shift at an animal shelter where I had to take this dog on her last walk ever. And I'm so mad. I'm so mad. Because this dog arrived there as a stray, but she's 3 years old, so she had a family before that. We named her Lyra at the shelter, because when she lost her home, she lost everything that she had, even her name. So we gave her a new name. I watched her sit in her kennel day after day, week after week, month after month, until she ran out of time. And I was told today that she was not gonna make it, and I wanted to take her on a walk, but at the same time, I didn't want to take her on a walk because she doesn't know, and she deserved to go on a last walk but for me. Broke my heart into a million pieces. But what .... What makes me mad the most is why am I the one having to cry for your dog that suddenly went missing and you never came looking for it? Where were you? Why did you not come look for your dog? Why is your dog sitting in a shelter? And why is your dog being euthanized tonight, and I am the one crying about it? Where were you? Where were their owners? Where did they come from? Where were they? I do my best and I try so hard, but a lot of the times I'm not successful. A lot of the times, they're euthanized for space. Healthy young dogs, amazing dogs. Euthanized for space. Because they went missing from their home and their person did not care to look for them. That's the reality of the shelters here in the United States. And yet I am the one having to cry about every single dog because their owners simply don't care. I'm tired, I'm exhausted. You know, I'm exhausted. I go to the shelter almost on a daily basis. I make videos for the dogs, and I'm the one crying when they're gone. I work my butt off trying to save their lives. But where were you? Where were their owners? Where did they come from? Where were they? I do my best and I try so hard, but a lot of the times I'm not successful.
