Why this side character in "The Odyssey" is about to become a household name over night Did you know that Hamish Patel from the Odyssey only has 68,000 followers on Instagram? And I bring that up not because Instagram follower matter, but because I think it's about to massively change for him. In fact, his trajectory in the Odyssey actually reminds me a lot of Miles Caton last year from the Oscar winning film Sinners, who he was a supporting actor who had not acted before, was discovered at a her concert as a backup singer. Someone came up to him backstage and was like, you should submit an audition for this movie. And while Hamish Patel has been acting for a long time, this was him and Christopher Nolan's movie Tenet that didn't get as much hype because it came out right when the pandemic happened and theatres had shut down. But despite being in "The Odyssey" alongside potentially the most stacked cast of the 2020s decade, Hamish Patel stole the freaking show. And I'm curious if anyone else has seen this movie, if you would agree. Obviously I'm not an acting coach, but as someone who watches a lot of media, I have a podcast in a movie theatre. I would say that what I love about an actor, what to me makes them feel genuine, is if you can't actually tell the actor's motives or what they're thinking, they're not like, obvious. Because that's how real life is. Sometimes we don't understand even the decisions we make in the moment. We don't understand how we're reacting until later. And with him, you couldn't always tell what his thought process was. And he was kind of like the voice of the audience in a way, and you're just like, really rooting for him. The fact that he has only 68,000 followers on Instagram is so insane to me. But again, I think that's about to change for him. I think he is going to get a best supporting nomination at the Oscars.
