Gap was dying and then Hailey Bieber wore their $70 pair of jeans for years straight and turned it into 2026's biggest marketing collab. Nostalgia marketing is everywhere. The reason why it works so well is in uncertain times like our economy, when people are feeling unsure about things, nostalgia takes them back to a time where they felt comfortable. And the latest brand to jump on the nostalgia marketing bandwagon is Gap. They just released their 1996 campaign. The year Hailey Bieber was born. Who over the last year has been wearing a vintage pair of Gap jeans from 1990s when Gap was huge and the campaign includes nostalgic time pieces from those days including an outdated computer, an old bubble chair, and our all-time favorite, mixed CD. The smartest thing about this campaign is that they haven't created a new product, they've literally reintroduced the product that she was wearing, the vintage pair of jeans she was wearing, named it after her and started reselling through a nostalgic campaign. And the campaign is soaked in 90s memorabilia including one of our all-time favorite Cranberry songs. My question to you brand founders is, my name is Katerina, I'm a sales and marketing strategist and business consultant. I help brands hit $1 to $2 million months consistently. Do you think this campaign is going to get sales with Gen Z and the younger generations who are in love with Hailey Bieber, or do you think it's going to tap into millennials like myself who remember this time? Drop a comment below. Maybe they'll do both.
