oh I agree and there are people that are sitting in management roles and leadership roles right now that should be ashamed of themselves because the most loyal person at the company is almost always the most underpaid and that's not an accident it's the damn plan here's how that works the loyal employee stays they are grateful they are steady and they don't make noise so every year the loyal employee is handed a 2 or 3% raise and the company calls that shit good meanwhile the company turns around and they hire someone off the street to do the same job for 15,000 more and then the loyal employee finds out by accident think about what that means the company rewards the people threatening to leave and then they turn around and quietly punish the ones who never would loyalty doesn't make someone valuable it made them cheap so here's what someone can actually do about it stop treating loyalty as the goal and start treating market value as the goal once a year find out what the role really pays somewhere else not to quit but to know because the number in someone's head is almost always lower than the number the market would give them and they are counting on loyal employees never checking loyalty should be earned every year not assume because someone stayed what's the longest you've ever stayed somewhere where your loyalty was taken advantage of drop it in the comments because I want to know
