One of my customers walked in with an old iPhone XR and asked me a question I've never forgotten. He said, "I want like the newest iPhone, to spend $1,200." Most people would have told him it was impossible. I didn't. Instead, I wanted to try something different. The plan was simple: keep every original component from his iPhone XR, but move them into a custom iPhone 17 style housing. It sounded crazy, but he'd save a huge amount of money compared to buying a new phone. So I completely disassembled the XR. The motherboard, the battery, the cameras, the charging port, every single part had to be removed carefully because if I damaged just one cable, the entire project could fail. Then came the hardest part: making everything fit inside a housing that was never originally designed for those components. I had to work slowly, making small adjustments along the way until every piece was sitting exactly where it needed to be. For a while, I honestly wasn't sure if it would even turn on. After reconnecting the final cable, I pressed the power button. A few long seconds passed, then the Apple logo appeared. The phone booted perfectly. The best part: from the outside, it looked like a brand new iPhone 17 Pro Max, but on the inside, it was still the customer's original iPhone XR. Instead of spending $1,200 on a new phone, he kept the device and completely changed the way it looked. When I handed it back to him, he couldn't stop smiling, kept turning it over in his hands because he couldn't believe it was still the same phone.
