His entire savings added up to only $43, while the repair normally cost $170. The display and touch screen still worked, so I decided to save the original screen and accept the coins. I removed the display, separated the shattered outer glass and cleaned away every fragment. Then I laminated new glass onto the OLED panel inside a vacuum machine after sealing the watch. Again, it powered on and passed the full touch test. The boy collected it before his father returned, but the secret lasted one day. His father came to my shop demanding the $43 back. He said I had no right to accept money from a minor or repair someone else's property without permission. He also refused to pay the remaining $127 because he had planned to make his son live with the consequences.
