Like PEMDAS, it's something we all learned in elementary school and there's a little jingle that I learned and it's parentheses first, exponents next, multiplication and division in the same step, then addition and subtraction if you have them, from left to right, first come, first serve. So with this problem, parentheses are first. So you focus on that, all right? You have one plus two, that's three. Now you leave it alone. Parentheses are done. Are there any exponents in this? No. So what's next? Multiplication and division. But remember, it's in the same step. So when something is in the same step, you go from left to right, whatever comes first. So you go, six divided by two. That is three. And maybe people have forgotten, but when a number is directly next to parentheses, that's just the same thing as like a multiplication symbol. So then you multiply that. So you get three times three, nine. Like it's that simple. I think the people getting this wrong are tripping up on the parentheses part because they're realizing you only focus on what is inside the parentheses, not outside. So you go from left to right. You'll go six divided by two. That is three. And maybe people have forgotten, but when a number is directly next to parentheses, that's just the same thing as like a multiplication symbol.
