Authentic Mexican cities that aren't Cancun, Tulum or Mexico City

Everyone goes to Mexico for Cancun, Tulum and Mexico City, but always overlooks these 6 underrated Mexican places. Our first up we've got Querétaro, an elegant colonial city with a beautiful old town, a really infamous stone aqueduct, and it's in the wine and cheese country right nearby. It's one that people constantly overlook. Next up, we've got Bacalar, which is actually known as the Lagoon of Seven Colors. The cool part is that the water really does shift from a beautiful turquoise to a dark navy. It's everything that people love the most about the Caribbean coast, but way quieter and way more laid back. Number three is Puebla. You've got beautiful tiled architecture, insane volcano views, and also some of the best food you're gonna get in Mexico. Close to Mexico City, but it's always overshadowed and it's a perfect base for day trips up to the mountain villages. Then we have Xico, a really tiny town in the mountains of Veracruz. It's lush, it's green, with a beautiful waterfall right nearby. It's well known for its coffee and mole, a really authentic small Mexico town that people don't really see. While everyone is busy rushing to the iconic Chichen Itza, Palenque is definitely one you should not skip that everyone else does. You've got beautiful Mayan ruins surrounded by the jungle, howler monkeys all over the trees, fewer crowds and more atmospheric. But if you haven't seen Chichen Itza, definitely don't skip that. Then we've got Valladolid. It's a really colorful colonial town right next to some of the most beautiful cenotes you're gonna get in the country. It's a really calm, laid-back base away from the crowded coast. Although the common spots in Mexico are beautiful and vibey, Mexico is massive and we need to be exploring beyond the obvious.
