Motherhood did not pause your ambition. It changed the conditions. Millennial working moms. If you are between 32 and 42, start these 10 habits before it is too late. 1️⃣ If you just returned from maternity leave, request a re-entry meeting before your first day back. Walk in with an agenda, not just an open door. 2️⃣ If you are a single mom, your time is your most valuable asset. Block one hour per week that is yours professionally. Non-negotiable, recurring, protected. 3️⃣ Track your output in numbers, not hours. A compressed schedule does not reduce your value. Put that case in writing before review season. 4️⃣ If your career has felt on hold for a few years, update LinkedIn now. Recruiters watch profiles continuously. An outdated profile signals unavailability even when you are not. 5️⃣ Know your legal entitlements around flexible working before negotiating anything. You may already have the right to what you are about to ask for. 6️⃣ Any schedule or workload agreement needs to be in writing. Verbal arrangements disappear when managers change. 7️⃣ If your company offers a coaching or development budget, use it. Mothers are statistically the least likely to claim it. 8️⃣ Find one woman in a senior role who also has children and ask her what it actually looked like. Not the polished version. The real one. 9️⃣ Set your availability hours once and share them in writing. Restating a boundary every time it gets tested teaches people it is not fixed. 🔟 Document one example per quarter of how you delivered results with fewer hours or more constraints than your peers. That is your leverage for every conversation that comes next. I am a corporate recruiter turned confidence and career coach for women.
