How is it that when you donate blood, you don't get paid any money? Meanwhile, healthcare CEOs get rich. And if you need blood, hospitals are still happy to charge you for it. Well, it's actually for a really, most people don't understand. See, back in the 60s and 70s, they actually would blood donations. Which seems like a good idea to more blood donations, right? Not exactly. It created a massive problem because once there was a financial incentive to donate, people stopped caring of the blood. So people who needed money would still donate blood, even if they had hepatitis or if they were sick. And after enough times of this happening, hospitals started refusing given through a paid donation. So if hospitals couldn't even trust these paid donation, there was literally no reason to keep paying people from them. And on top of that, clinics are getting more blood donations when they give people money as an incentive. Because the second that you start paying people to donate blood, people can no longer brag to their friends about how altruistic they are because of course, you were getting paid. And so by not paying people, you get safer blood donations and potentially more.
