The paradox of choice. The weird truth that if you give people more options, they'll end up buying less and you'll make less money. And it's all driven by one single human emotion that most people don't understand. But this guy does. Because in 2004 he published a book about the exact study that proved this. You see, he set up two identical stores that were selling jam, and one of them had 24 different jams you could buy from, and the other only had six. And most people think that if you have more options for people, they're more likely to find the exact jam that they want, which makes it more likely that they'll buy. But that is not what happened and it's a complete misunderstanding of how psychology really works. Because the purchase rate for the 24 jam display was around 3%, but the purchase rate for the six jam display was 30%. So a 10x increase in sales by decreasing the options substantially. And the one core human drive that he boiled almost all of this down to was indecision or analysis paralysis. The second that you make your choice slightly more confusing to your customer, they just won't buy. Which is why usually the optimal thing is to offer two or three choices, with one really expensive one as a price anchor. I'm money minded and I teach you about money one story at a time. So follow.
