Adam Kinzinger apparently woke up on August 24 and decided diplomacy was somebody else’s department. 😂 His assessment of Trump’s escalating trade fight with Canada was not subtle: he called Trump a “complete dumbass,” argued that picking a fight with one of America’s closest allies is the behavior of a small man — and then finished with two words that I don’t believe have ever appeared in a State Department briefing. The underlying issue isn’t just comedy, though. The U.S.-Canada trade conflict has escalated again, with reporting this week describing additional tariff threats and growing concern about the economic and political fallout. You can debate trade policy. You can debate tariffs. You can debate whether publicly calling the president names is statesmanlike. But watching a former Republican congressman and Air Force veteran look at the situation and essentially say, “What the actual fuck are we doing picking a fight with Canada?” Well.
