Okay, before anybody shares this as actual Fox News: THIS IMAGE IS SATIRE. 😂 The “firefighters” shown here are not real FDNY firefighters being interviewed about Donald Trump. But the story it’s mocking? Trump really did tell it this week. At a September 8 event honoring 9/11 first responders, Trump claimed that after the attacks he was near what was then called the U.S. Steel Building—now One Liberty Plaza—when people feared it might collapse. According to Trump, two “big, strong” firefighters grabbed him under the arms, lifted him up and started running with him. There is just one teensy problem: Nobody has been able to verify that happened. The White House was asked for evidence and provided none. There is evidence Trump was in Lower Manhattan on September 13, two days after the attacks, but no public evidence places him inside that building during the evacuation scare or confirms two firefighters carried him away. And Trump’s larger claim that he brought a substantial crew of his construction workers to help with Ground Zero recovery has also never been independently substantiated. A former FDNY battalion chief who supervised recovery work has said there would have been records of such a crew and that he knew of none. Which brings us back to this masterpiece. The internet apparently decided that if the two mystery firefighters won’t come forward… Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth will simply have to play them on television. 😭😭😭 Twenty-five years later, America is still honoring the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, construction workers and ordinary people whose heroism on 9/11 is actually documented.
