Canada would like to formally decline America’s unsolicited acquisition proposal. 😂🇨🇦 Trump is once again talking about Canada like it’s a condo he spotted on Zillow. This time: Canada supposedly wants all the “benefits” of being an American state without actually becoming one. Sir. Have we considered the possibility that Canada enjoys being Canada? Because while Trump keeps resurrecting his weird 51st-state routine, Canada is doing something considerably less subtle: fighting back. After the Trump administration slapped 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion in Canadian goods, Canada announced retaliatory tariffs of its own. Prime Minister Mark Carney has also said Washington needs to get serious before trade negotiations resume. And this isn’t exactly winning hearts and minds. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found 63% of Americans oppose Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America,” and 57% disapprove of the new tariffs on Canada. Even 43% of people who voted for Trump in 2024 opposed the lake-renaming stunt. Meanwhile, Canadians are increasingly boycotting American products, changing travel plans and looking for suppliers outside the United States. So perhaps Canada isn’t secretly yearning to become Wisconsin North. Perhaps they’re looking across the border thinking: “We were perfectly happy being neighbors until you started measuring the curtains.” And THAT is why the fake Canadian response in this meme is so damn funny.
