Okay, this picture is REAL—but the viral caption is having a little fun with what we’re seeing. 😂 President Donald Trump visited Irish President Catherine Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin on September 12. As part of the ceremonial welcome, Connolly invited Trump to sign Ireland’s Distinguished Visitors Book. Reuters and AP photographs confirm the meeting and the signing. But no, I can’t find evidence that Connolly went hunting through the presidential residence thinking: “Bring me the smallest desk in Ireland.” 😭 The little table was being used for the visitors’ book—not presented as Trump’s diplomatic workstation. What is real is considerably more substantive. Afterward, Connolly said she directly conveyed to Trump what she called the Irish people’s strong view that the normalization of war and genocide can never be accepted. She also presented gifts centered on peace and reconciliation, including a St. Brigid’s Cross and Michael Longley’s poetry containing the sonnet Ceasefire. Trump’s entry in the book? “A GREAT HONOR TO BE HERE THANK YOU.” So: did Catherine Connolly intentionally put the American president behind a comically tiny desk as an act of international trolling? There’s no evidence of that. Did the resulting photograph immediately give the internet everything it needed? The meme-makers certainly thought so. 😂🇮🇪 #CatherineConnolly #DonaldTrump #Ireland #PoliticalHumor #FactCheck
