The bright Grade 4 learner from Joostenberg Primary is gone, and the people who loved her most are left shattered. Octavia was not just a child in the household. She was the quiet, clever little girl who had overcome early health struggles and grown into a top achiever at school. At home she showed a different side, warm, full of life, and deeply loved, especially by her grandmother and the woman she called Ma. Cathleen Davids carried the everyday responsibility of raising her. That bond has now been torn apart in the most cruel way. Police have arrested Octavia’s 14-year-old cousin in connection with her death. He was later released into the care of his parents while the investigation continues. For the family, the knowledge that someone so close is accused has added another layer of pain to an already unbearable loss.
