The brutal stabbing of 14-year-old twin brothers Bonolo and Bohlale Makena in their Mamelodi West home continues to haunt their family and community. On Friday, their mother returned from work and made the unthinkable discovery, blood on the kitchen floor leading to the boys’ lifeless bodies in a bedroom, one covered with a blanket. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds. Speaking to eNCA, the twins’ aunt, Kagiso Mogale, expressed the family’s deep confusion and pain. She firmly rejected the idea that this was a robbery gone wrong. Only the boys’ phones and a PS4 were taken, and there was no forced entry. “We believe that this is not robbery… We don’t understand what really happened,” she said, describing a household left devastated, with the mother crying constantly. In the same interview, the twins’ uncle, Thabang Phetla, shared an even more chilling belief: that the boys might have known their killer. This suggestion raises serious questions about how the attacker or attackers gained access to the home and whether the attack was targeted. The family is now appealing to anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and help police find those responsible. These statements from close family members paint a picture far darker than a random break-in. Two quiet, church-going teenagers, described by their bishop as soft-hearted boys who loved attending classes and were not involved in any criminal activity, were murdered in what should have been the safest place, their own home. Their mother, Merriam Makgopa Makena, has spoken of her unbearable grief, saying she now has no children left. Their grandmother has also expressed heartbreak over the violence that took her grandsons. Police are investigating the double murder and following leads, but no arrests have been made. The lack of forced entry and the limited items stolen only deepen the mystery. Government has condemned the killings and called on the community to assist investigators. JustAdvocacy stands firmly with the Makena and Phetla family. The idea that these boys may have known the person who ended their lives is deeply disturbing and demands thorough investigation. Children should never be unsafe in their own homes. We call on the South African Police Service to pursue every lead with urgency and transparency. We urge residents of Mamelodi West and surrounding areas who saw or heard anything unusual that day to contact the authorities immediately. Justice for Bonolo and Bohlale is not optional…it is a necessity. Their family deserves answers. The community deserves safety. South Africa’s children deserve to live without fear. We will continue to amplify this family’s call until those responsible are held accountable. #JustAdvocacy #JusticeForMamelodiTwins #ProtectOurChildren #MamelodiWest #EndViolenceAgainstChildren
