The search for 17-year-old Zinhle Thandeka Mfutyana has ended in devastating news. Her mother has confirmed to Missing Person South Africa that Zinhle is deceased. Zinhle was last seen on Sunday, 27 September 2026, at approximately 13:12 near the Spitz store at Maponya Mall in Soweto. For days her mother searched, hoping she would be found alive. On Friday evening, 9 October, after our missing-person appeal, her mother contacted Missing Person South Africa with the heartbreaking confirmation that her daughter had been found but was no longer alive. According to her mother, Zinhle was reportedly shot at Bara Taxi Rank in Soweto on the same day she was last seen. She received a telephone call from a woman working at the mortuary at Bara informing her that Zinhle’s body had been there since 27 September. Her mother believes the missing-person appeal may have helped the person who contacted her reach the family. At this stage the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting remain unclear. No official police confirmation of the circumstances has been received, and no information about possible suspects or arrests has been provided. We report only what the family has shared and what has been established so far. Zinhle was only 17. She had her whole life ahead of her. Her 18th birthday would have been on 6 March 2027. She will never get to celebrate it. To Zinhle’s mother, family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her, we extend our deepest condolences. We also thank everyone who shared the appeal and helped spread awareness during the search. Her mother is understandably devastated. We ask the public to respect the family’s grief and privacy during this difficult time. When the family is ready, we hope more information will become available about the circumstances surrounding Zinhle’s death. Every family deserves answers when a loved one dies under such tragic circumstances. The missing-person appeal is now closed. Rest in peace, Zinhle Thandeka Mfutyana. May your family find strength and comfort, and may the truth of what happened be fully established. #JustAdvocacy #ZinhleThandekaMfutyana #Soweto #RestInPeace #MissingPersonSouthAfrica
