When I'm cold calling, I love to use permission based openers. I actually use them all the time. I just don't use them as the opener of the cold call. Now, if you're not familiar with the permission based opener, here's what it sounds like. Hey, this is Tro at sales org.io. I'll be up front with you. This is a cold call. Give me 15 seconds. I can explain why I'm calling. Why I think we might be able to help you guys out. If it doesn't make sense, you can hang up. How's that sound? Now, the whole purpose of the permission based opener is to earn that 15 to 30 seconds of attention where you can pitch the prospect. I like the permission based opener, but I want it for if they say not interested before I can even get out my entire pitch. So if I say how you doing today and then they say not interested, I'm going to leverage it. Or if I get halfway through and they're like, no, no, no, no, no, not interested. I'll say completely understandable. I know you weren't expecting my call. If you give me 15 seconds, I'll explain why I was calling you and why I think I might be able to help you guys out and if it doesn't make sense you can hang up. How does that sound? Now if I use the permission based opener up front, if they say not interested halfway through my pitch after that, I can't use it again. It's only something that you can use once on a call existing opener works. I'm going to continue to leverage that, but I do like that opener. I'm going to save it. I'm just going to use that as a rebuttale. See, anything that you can use as a rebuttale or as a selling point while you're cold calling is a bullet that you have at your disposal. And if you spend a whole bunch of bullets before you need it to spend them, you may get to the end of the call or midway through the call and they're still giving you resistance and you're all out of bullets. You don't know what to do next. So I save those bullets and I make sure that I don't use them unless I need to and that puts me in a better position to get what I want, which is to book a qualified meeting. Now, when I'm training, I cover the permission-based opener along with the plesantory opener and the email reference opener. I do all of it in our full SDR course that you can get for free. It's 6 and a half hours of video training. The link is in my bio and follow me for more tips on how to up your sales game.
