What BDRs/SDRs actually do all day Spoiler: it's not just emails if you've ever wondered what tech sales people actually do all day let me enlighten you a typical day as a BDR starts like this like most jobs you start the day by checking all your unread Slack messages your emails everything just kinda getting your life in order and then you gear up for what most of the job is and that's outreach that means 50 to 100 dials sometimes more but we have dialers that can dial up to seven people at once second someone picks up it connects you with them and it shows you your notes on the prospect I'll tell you what happens to all the people that don't pick up here in a second Long with calls you're also firing off 30 to 50 emails per day don't picture typing all of them out each at a time like a novelist 98% of them are automated you just tweak the details so they sound personal the first one though you pretty much write that whole thing you kinda wanna make sure it's really personalized and you show them that you knew them then comes sourcing and this is arguably the most tedious part of the process finding new accounts researching decision makers and finding out who's actually worth your time this usually eats up maybe one to two hours depending on how much you need to book and we all know how most people don't answer the phone but the highest connect rate is on the first dial and this is through every industry that's why sourcing is the bread and butter cuz you want fresh new contacts that are gonna pick the phone and they're validated sprinkle in a couple meetings with your team your AEs whatever else maybe a couple one on ones with your manager and you literally just rent and repeat it sounds very repetitive and it is every day is like the same thing but it pays off every call and every meeting is a brick on the wall that eventually gets you to your AE promotion that's when you make the real money the money jumps 2x 3x in your first year as an AE it's not glamorous but the ladder that you're climbing is worth every single dial
