I am a beauty data analyst turned founder and I get a lot of questions on how to become a fashion data analyst or a data analyst or a trend analyst. It's really like sociology through data. And now we have a really great resource that you could use to start playing around. I write about the business of beauty and so we did a piece last week where we got the hex color code of every blush at Ulta's 1,405 blushes. What Ulta's 1,405 blushes reveal about beauty's sameness problem. unfiltered-barefaced.com for raw spreadsheet. But that data is now readily available. Download it as a raw CSV and go to town. Maybe don't even read the article. Maybe stumble around and see what you could figure out as key trends. And then you could just cross-reference that with what I wrote. But in saying that, I didn't capture it all. It was a very service level piece. I feel like there was more in that piece to be found about hues about naming conventions versus the hex codes. So like, for instance, from road, what did that look like and reference to the shade? That would be a really cool piece of work. But basically, that data set is a really great way to work on the strategy part. My biggest discovery from doing this work is that the hardest part is always collecting the data and that no one gives a shit about what they're paying for or care about is how you can use that data to make them money at the end of the day. So like, what are the takeaways that they can mobilize into their business for some sort of return? Whether that's like PR and cons or all the way down to increasing sales. That's all we're doing at the end of the day. So we've done the heavy lifting for you. It's a really cool data set. I reckon you should play around.
