Queens VS Western Consulting + Finance Recruiting

Which business school in Canada should you go to? Ideally that means should you go to Western or should you go to Queens? Creating for finance and consulting addition. Something I didn't know when I was in high school is that Queens recruiting runs entirely through clubs. For finance, those clubs are quick and lime stone. For consulting, those clubs are Kreo and Freshside. Obviously, there are other clubs such as Trillium for finance or QSC for consulting, but generally the top two clubs are those two. If you're on one of those clubs, it makes the entire recruiting process much more seamless because alumny are going to vouch for you quite hard and it also means that you're probably more likely to get a few first rounds. And for consulting in finance, that's usually the hardest part. It also means that if you're not on a club, you have to work really, really hard in order to get into a good placement. Here at Western, we do have clubs that you can apply and get into, but they honestly don't change your career trajectory that much. I was on some of the more competitive clubs in my first two years, and they haven't really done that much for me. None of my jobs this summer came from anything related to clubs. And I got my job last summer through a club that wasn't very competitive and through an event that was available to everyone on campus. The takeaway here is that Western is more even playing field. If you're interested in coming to Western for finance, you've probably heard about Wick as well as IPSC. And yes, so people in those clubs have gone to do well, but so have people that are not in those clubs. There's also people on Wick and IPSC that did not get a junior year summer offer. The big takeaway here is that your success is not determined by the fact that you are on a club. The people that are on Wick still have to work really hard to get their jobs. The people that are not on clubs still have to work really hard to get their jobs. How do you take all of this information actually do something about it. Go to Queen's if you genuinely think that you can from your school, I can pull for you. Do you think that you are amazing at interviewing? Do you think that you have amazing experience before even entering university that no one else would have. If those don't apply to you, then I would say come to Western because you have a little bit more time to adjust and explore. If you made it this far, here's a few covets to think about. The timeline for club hiring at Queens makes it so that you better know what you need to do by March of 1st year because that's when club recruiting starts kicking off and I would argue that that is your real recruiting timeline. And also if anyone from Commerce wants to like jump in and correct me, like go ahead. Versus at Western, I think that the fact that clubs don't matter as much means that you get more time to explore and think about what you really want to do.
