Maximize your amex points

I work at an American Express over the summer. If you recently got either the Cobalt or the Gold, these are my tips on maximizing the points you can earn with each one. With the Cobalt, I'll use it for all things food, subscriptions, as well as dining. The Cobalt gives 5X the amount of points on food and drinks, such as eligible restaurants or food delivery in Canada, and also gives 3X the amount of points on streaming subscriptions. Whenever I go out with my friends, I'll put my card down and then ask everyone to each transfer me after, so I'm still getting the points. I also use it for my Spotify subscription, as well as any other subscriptions I might have. I recently got the Gold because of the sign-on bonus, so you can get up to 110,000 Membership Rewards points. New American Express Gold Rewards Cardmembers, earn 5,000 Membership Rewards points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $1,000 in net purchases on your Card. Earn an additional 30,000 points after you spend a total of $20,000 on your Card in your first 12 months of Cardmembership. But you need to spend $20k on the card in the first year, as well as spend $1,000 each month on the card. Now, I'm a student, so it'll be a little bit hard to get to that threshold when I'm already using my Cobalt for all things food and dining. However, I do go to a very expensive business school and I also need to pay for my rent. So to me, that $20k threshold is not that hard to reach. What I'll be doing is paying for my rent every single month using my Gold card through Chexy, and also paying for my tuition with my Gold card through Chexy. My tuition and my rent are going to come out to around $30,000 in total. On top of that, Chexy currently has a promotion where you're able to earn up to 10,000 Aeroplan points through using it. This way, I'll get 90k AMX points from my AMX Gold card by the end of the year, which I can then transfer to Aeroplan and up to 10k Aeroplan points from Chexy by the end of the year. Using those Aeroplan points, I can redeem free flights like this business class flight from Montreal to Paris for 64.3K + CA $81, or a business class flight from Toronto to Madrid for 65K + CA $77. I'm also going to be keeping the Gold for another year because you get an extra 20,000 Membership Rewards points when you make a purchase between months 15 and 17 of Cardmembership. Finally, I'll be booking all my travel through my AMX Gold because I get 2X the points.
