Things I delegate to AI versus things I don't as a software engineer.

No.1 is for testing and verification because I really find writing and running tests so annoying but someone's gotta do it alright so I definitely use AI for this. With computer use Codex can see my app, it can click around it, it can verify that things behave the way they're supposed to and with the in-app browser I can see everything without having to leave the app. No.2 is for pre-reviewing my own PRs because I still get as anxious as I did when I first started as a SWE every time I open up PR for anyone to review so before I push code I appreciate having a second pair of eyes before I embarrass myself in front of everybody. So I use Codex's Github integration because it can plug into my repo, it can read through diffs, it can remember how your codebase is structured and it'll flag anything worth noting also right within the app before you open that PR. No.3 is for repetitive chores so think about dependency bumps, linting, checking out migrations, the kind of stuff that you forget about and only remember when it's broken. Let me set a Codex thread to wake up on a schedule and handle all the boring repetitive work for me. Now things I don't delegate. I don't delegate architecture and design decisions so this is how I shape a system and how I decide that everything should fit together. I use AI for planning and brainstorming but not to make those calls on its own. I kind of use it as a second opinion. I also don't delegate creative work for projects or personal projects simply because this is the part that I find the most fun and the most rewarding when I'm building so this is figuring out how to build something, creating my assets, things like that. If however creating assets is something that you don't enjoy, Image V2 just launched inside Codex as well so you're getting a really good image model built right in.
