Welcome to another episode of The Boys is that good anymore. Last episode frustrated me so bad that one rant wasn't enough. I want to talk about specific character decisions that make me crabby. Chapter one, what was the point? There were three characters that were introduced in season four that did absolutely nothing for the plot in season five and did not need to be introduced in the first place. First one on this list, the new Black Noir. The original Black Noir, one of the best characters The Boys ever produced and his arc in season three was awesome yet devastating. So immediately bringing him back in season four already felt like a misstep, but it just gets even worse in season five because all of the elements of the new character, the new Black Noir in season four, all of it got thrown out the window. Last season we learned that he can fly, he can talk, and he has narcolepsy. This season to throw the fans off, they don't have the guy talk for the first four episodes and that's because people think that Noir was going to be a Homelander clone. It's the only reason they didn't make him talk. The narcolepsy, funny bit from season four, never gets brought up again in season five. It never happens again. And spoiler warnings, if you didn't see the latest episode, but as he's being killed by the Deep, you would think that a guy that has the power to fly would try to fly to escape that situation. To tie it back to the theme of this chapter, what was the point of introducing this character in the first place? Character number two, Firecracker, also introduced in season four, basically just to replace or backfill Madelyn Stillwell. I won't lie, I think this character had a lot of potential and a lot of great moments. Her episode in season five is really good until the end. If she wasn't going to make Homelander turn, if she wasn't going to join forces with The Boys, what was the point of this character other than to be the next Stillwell? Again, if useless in season five, why introduce in season four, or why not kill off in season four? Character number three that was introduced in season four that did not matter in season five, Sister Sage. The entirety of season four, we are learning that she is the smartest person in the world in seeing just how dangerous she can be. In season five, the smartest person in the world makes one of the dumbest decisions just to move the plot forward, just to get Homelander the V1. If this is not a part of her ultimate grand scheme, this was the biggest waste of a character and again, why introduce this character in season four if she's not going to do anything in season five? What was the point?
