How I bought a house on a $55k salary. I got a job and before you say that must be nice or your parents probably helped you, they didn't. So here's the truth on how I did it. It's not about how much you make, it's about how you use it. I was possibly saving for years and years, but the day I decided to purchase my house, I became intentional. I built my budgeting spreadsheet that night and I started tracking it. This helped me see exactly where my money was going every single month, how much I was spending on every category, and where I needed to cut down. After that, I opened my high-yield savings account and I started adding money to it aggressively. In order to support my income, I also got a part-time job for nine months and added all the money from that to my savings. A lot of people think budgeting means restricting, but really it just means being mindful about your spending habits and where your money is going. This is the exact spreadsheet, but upgraded, that I used to buy my house and if you have goals like this too, I highly recommend using something like this so you can start your financial journey.
