I hope you're ready for a longer video

I hope you're ready for a longer video because this is my day in the life as a non-resident Indian or NRI in Kerala. To begin, this was the view I woke up to this morning. I feel like the luckiest person. One reason I love visiting India is for its greenery. It's just so beautiful. And because we were doing a lot of visiting today, we were able to see everyone's houses, their gardens, and also a lot of animals. We were able to see that Ammachi's fish pond and she also had three cats, which were so cute. There is an art when it comes to visiting people's houses. You have coffee or chai with snacks and are able to catch up on life. At this house, I love the mixture that they had. You also end up getting a nice tour of the house or their garden. And in Malayali culture, it's rare to leave empty-handed. Here's some family picking some fruits. Actually an obscure fruit, I don't remember the name. Talking about fruits, we've been on the hunt for this specific type of banana which we haven't been able to find because the most common banana type is called Nendran, which we don't think is as sweet or yummy. It's actually funny because my dad can tell which banana is being sold just by looking at it. Okay, but onto the next house. We went to my dad's aunt's house. This is a portrait of my great Appachan. I always love seeing families showcase where they have photos of their grandchildren, their children. This Ammachi of ours was drying red chili peppers. And after this visit, we left with over a dozen eggs. I feel like that's a good example of sisterhood. My Ammachi's sister giving her 12 eggs for the road. Okay, but by this time, it was lunch. We stopped by Avees, which has a variety of food. I was really craving some porotta, but apparently lunch doesn't really start till 1:30. But this cold coffee made up for it. It's really just a coffee milkshake. We got it from this bakery called Joshi's and I've been resisting the urge to have it every day. Now after lunch, we went from my dad's side to my mom's side of the family. Here you can see my sister and I fighting off jet lag on the couch. And as the oldest grandchild, I love seeing my baby photos scattered around the house. And at this point, we had some of our cousins stop by. These are our second cousins and sometimes when I think of our family tree, I feel like our Appachans are looking down so happy to see us playing Uno together. Ooh, and another fun thing, it is very typical to see the weather fluctuate like this where it's sunny and then a lot of rain. This is our first time visiting India before monsoon season. But then for the rest of the day, we visited a couple more houses. These were all from my mom's side, so it was so cute to see kids growing up. And then it was night.
