I had this realisation a few years ago and ever since, I've completely stopped doing this. You know how before holiday, everyone suddenly becomes the best version of themselves? Fresh nails, fresh lashes, fresh hair, spray tan, new wardrobe. And not just new clothes, like holiday clothes. Like clothes that don't make sense in your normal life, because there's summer clothes that you wear in London, and then there's I'm going to a tropical island for seven days type of clothes. Denim shorts, you wear those again. But some of us are out here buying a two piece covered in palm trees and pineapples that will literally never leave the wardrobe again. Unless you're on a tropical island in a few years again. But realistically, if you're buying all these outfits, you wanna take pictures in all these outfits, so you don't wanna be seen on Instagram wearing the same thing, so you're just never gonna wear it again. And I used to do the exact same thing. I'd spend hundreds of pounds getting ready for holiday and then I'd come home and my normal life would look scruffy in comparison. And one day I thought, why am I investing so much into the version of me that exists 10 to 20 days a year? Why am I putting more effort into how I look on holiday than how I look for the rest 340 days? Because let's be honest, holidays are already amazing. The sea is beautiful, the food is beautiful, the weather is beautiful. You could have one week outgrown nails and nobody will notice. Nobody's zooming into your holiday pictures, checking your lash infills. For your everyday life, that's where you actually live, that's where your marriage happens, that's where your friendships happen, that's where your career happens. So now I do the opposite. I'd rather spend the money making my normal life nicer. I'd rather buy clothes I can wear all year that I can like, flex on holiday too, with some different little pieces. I think it's more important for me to be more put together on a random Tuesday at work than what I look like on a beach in Thailand. Cause I think we've accidentally started romanticising holidays more than our actual lives. If your life only feels exciting when you're abroad and that's the only time you come alive, that's probably the thing you should be fixing.
