Hook
I genuinely think that one of the biggest problems with western society is that nobody wants to do the hard things anymore. And worse, we've convinced ourselves that if something feels hard, uncomfortable, or unnatural, we shouldn't do it. Like it's unethical. I'm just not a gym person. Diet's not for me. It's just my genetics. I'm bad with money. I just can't get out of bed. I, I, I could never work two jobs. I don't have enough time. I have an addictive personality. I, I'm just not happy in my marriage anymore. I can't help how, how I feel. I should be accepted no matter what I do, wherever I go. Okay. And do you think disciplined people wake up every morning absolutely freaking delighted to do the difficult thing? Do you think every fit person looks at a burger and thinks, Ew, I'd much rather have chicken and broccoli? Do you think they're skipping through the gym doors absolutely buzzing to destroy their legs after 8 hours of working? No, they want that burger, too. They want to stay in bed, too. They want to spend money, too. They want instant gratification. They just understand something that we seem to have completely forgotten. Wanting something is not a good enough reason to do it, and not wanting to do something is not a good enough reason not to. Sometimes the correct decision feels shit. That's adulthood. We live in probably one of the most comfortable periods of human history in the western world. And we become less capable of tolerating the discomfort. Everything has to validate us. Everything has to feel good. Everything has to serve us. Don't restrict yourself. Don't deprive yourself. Protect your peace and your boundaries. You deserve it. Treat yourself. Leave if you're unhappy. But nobody wants to talk about freaking sacrifice anymore. You want more money? You might have to work when your friends are drinking. You might need a second job. You might need to stop buying shit you can't afford. You may have to spend three years building something while absolutely no one gives a shit and think it's embarrassing. You want to change your body? You're probably gonna have to say no to food you really want sometimes. You're going to have to train when you can't be bothered and miss some events. You're going to have to accept that your short term desires and your long term goals are occasionally going to be at war with one another. You want to overcome a destructive habit? You're going to have to sit through the discomfort of not giving yourself the thing your brain is screaming for. You want a long, healthy marriage? Oh, babe, you are definitely going to have to do things you don't want to do.
