I needed someone to tell me this at 21. 1️⃣ If you are still in college, apply for at least one internship every summer. Paid or unpaid, it does not matter yet. Experience compounds faster than grades. 2️⃣ Before you leave every internship or job, ask for a written reference. Do not wait until you need one. Ask while the relationship is still warm. 3️⃣ Create a LinkedIn profile today if you do not have one. Add every internship, every project, every skill. Recruiters are searching for people your age right now. 4️⃣ If you did not go to college, build a portfolio before you build a resume. Proof of work opens more doors than a degree ever will. 5️⃣ Your first salary sets the tone for the next three offers you receive. Negotiate it even when it feels uncomfortable. 6️⃣ Have a hobby that has nothing to do with your career. You need at least one place in your life where your worth is not being measured. 7️⃣ Most people in their early 20s do not have it figured out. They are just quiet about it. Stop measuring yourself against people performing certainty. 8️⃣ Do not pick a career based on what your parents think is stable. Stable industries disappear. Skills do not. 9️⃣ If someone senior offers you ten minutes of their time, come with three specific questions. Wasted access is worse than no access. 🔟 Your identity cannot live inside your job title. The day that title changes, and it will, you need to still know who you are without it.
