Q: does your research need to match your community service?

Today I had a coffee chat with a Harvard medical student and I feel like I learned so much and every time I feel like I have a coffee chat literally with anyone I get so much inside about like what being a medicine is like, what the journey is like and everything. So I thought I might share. And the student that I was trying with today was telling me that if you're doing research, volunteering, you know, all the the premed activities, like they look at me to be all coherent. So for example, if you are interested in a certain community and certain diseases when it comes to your volunteering, it doesn't make sense for you to do research in a completely different field. So for example, being your community work on HIV and doing allergy research or something like that. Um, but I've also heard people say like it doesn't really matter if your research like is the same like topic or study field as your other activities as long as it demonstrates your passion and experience and research and if you can somewhat hide to your story even if it's not on the the same topic. But the student that I was treating with today was saying like you shouldn't do that because it's just like doesn't make sense when people read your application. So I don't know. I feel like my community work and research and research are like you wouldn't make be able to make the connection like right away if I did not like explain it. So I don't know. Should I change my reason? Like I don't know. Like what do you guys think if you're already in med school, like did you have to do that? Like I don't know. That's that was kind of like the question. I had after coffee shot today. But yeah.
