Banking & consulting is no longer prestigious

Our society picks a new prestigious career that evolves every 20 years. And usually by the time you hear it's too late to break into that field or the money's gone. So if you're picking a career right or trying to decide what field to break into, make sure you pay attention to the last role in this video. And here's just some data up front. If you look at software engineering, entry level postings have dropped 65% between 2022 and 2025. Which means that in some cases, computer science graduates have higher unemployment than people in arts majors. Anyway, here are the highest status careers from the last hundred years. Let me start from the beginning. In the early 1900s, it was the officer corps. It was working at a white shoe law firm or it was working at a bank. Now, mid 1900s, mid century, it then became the Ivy League degrees and the MBA. These were the highest status individuals. It was the ones who could pursue education at the highest level. And then in the 1980s to the 2000s, it was banking and it was consulting. Think Mackenzie, Bain, BCG, Goldman, Morgan, etcetera. The highest status pipeline was to go from one of these Ivy League schools straight into those analyst programs. Now, in the 2010s, it was Big Tech and specifically software engineering and product management. These were some of the only roles where you could make 200K straight out of school, and five years into your career, make half a million dollars. And it also came with a bunch of perks. You got free lunch, you got nice offices, you got bus rides to the office. And so what is it fromo what is it right now? From what I've been seeing, it's Y Combinator, the prestigious accelerator in Silicon Valley. And it's working. Research lab, a company like Anthropic and OpenAI where the pay packages go up to half a million dollars for hosting events. You can literally make 400K a year as an event planner at Anthropic. So here's what I would do if I were you and I were looking for my next job. I would get AI pilled. And I mean everything. Not just work, but your email, your social life, your workouts. Try to integrate as into your life as possible. And get really comfortable with the technology, because the people on the forefront of this technology are 10 steps ahead of everyone else when it comes to the ways of working.
