After 400 years later there's still no record of how they got the stone up this spire 🏯 One of the most surreal places to visit in China, and a UNESCO World Heritage site! 📍 Fanjingshan (Mount Fanjing), Tongren, Guizhou, China Fanjingshan's Red Clouds Golden Summit is a rock spire topped by two Ming-era temples joined by a small stone bridge, one dedicated to the Buddha of the present, the other to the Buddha of the future. The mountain is an ecological sky island with species found nowhere else on earth, and how the building materials were carried up the spire has never been explained. Here are 5 tips: 1. Tickets open 7 days ahead (Trip.com, or the official WeChat account), real-name, 9,000 a day cap. In peak season, book the morning your date opens. Entry is about 120 CNY plus shuttle, cable car about 140 CNY return. 2. The nearest hub is Tongren, with an airport and high-speed rail, then about an hour to the Jiangkou east gate. 3. Take the cable car up and save your legs, the last stretch to the temples is steep chain-railed steps carved into the rock. 4. The spire climb has its own timeslot. Scan the QR code at Pudu Square when you get off the cable car and reserve it first, then explore while you wait. 5. Book the earliest slot you can, mornings give you the best shot at the cloud sea before mist closes in.
